The market penetration of Windows Vista had been very slow since its launch more than half a year ago. Let's predict what market share Vista will get by end of Sept 2007. We will use the W3Schools OS web usage as the reference for market share: http://www.w3schools.com/...

Don't forget, MS just announced the release of Vista Service Pack 1 early next year.
    http://news.com.com/Will+update+drive...
It is another way for MS to say, "our Vista is ready for mass adoption". A lot of businesses who hold back in upgrading to Vista, are the same people who wait for the release of SP1. So this news will boost sales somehow. Maybe not much, but SP1 is a big milestone for each Windows version.

So, I think the market penetration will be above 5.0% at the end of Sep.

The rate of Vista is +0.5% (max +0.7%) per month. As it is 3.6% in July and now is return-to-school season, the market penetration should be around 4.8±0.2% at the end of Sep.

One of the reasons why users hesitate to upgrade to Vista is because DirectX 10 isn't that great. MS tried to force people to upgrade by making DX10 Vista exclusive, but so far this is not working.

For gamers, Vista + DX10 is very slow compared to XP +DX9. Also, DX10 offers very little in terms of extra graphics capability. See it with your own eyes with this DX 9 vs. DX 10 comparison with the latest game BioShock:
