I don't think that CDs will be around forever but they're still needed. I don't have an mp3 player and I don't believe in spending so much money just so I can carry my music around with me all day. I still buy CDs, even though every CD store by me is gone. I still burn mp3s onto CDs when I want to. And CDs often come with nice things like CD jackets, that might be obtainable online, but much nicer in a hardcopy. It's like books. Even though books can be read with a computer, people still buy regular books. I predict that when CDs do disappear, they will create something physical to replace it. Maybe a cartridge with no exposed parts.

Come on. Walmart is still No.1 music seller in US. People are still using CD's, and it is not going to completely go away in 5 years.

I am not a music person. Even though I know CD has better quality than mp3, I cannot tell the difference when I listen to them.

One more thing to point out: the sound quality of MP3 is no match to that of CDs... so while pop culture is moving fast into the world of MP3, things such as classical music, opera, etc., are still holding on tight to CD, SACD, etc...

2010 is only 2 years away... while I think music CD will become less and less popular, but if we can still buy tapes even to this date on some labels, I am almost certain that CDs won't be eliminated from the production line by 2010.

goog, i don't agree with u. my parents are already consuming MP3 instead of CDs. it is more accessible for them to download from the net for any new songs.

The music CD market consist more than just teenagers. I don't see grandpa buying MP3's from iTune anytime soon.
