PayPal, an eBay subsidiary that provides an e-commerce alternative to traditional currency exchange, said it will take steps to block transactions from users with outdated browsers or those that don't have the necessary security features, the BBC reports. That list includes Apple (NSDQ:AAPL)'s Safari browser and versions of Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT)'s Internet Explorer dating back to 1996.

Currently, you can still use Safari to access Paypal. Let's predict how Paypal will handle the Safari browser by the end of Q2 2008.

Like most of us suggested, it was just some empty threat. So far they have only issued security warning. And nothing else. And I don't think they will do more in the future unless Safari really screws up their next patch which I don't think they will.

Paypal blocking Safari was merely a speculation. No evidence indicating it will happen. In fact, it is not likely to happen after Paypal talked to the media again to clarify:

Just read from the news, Paypal just denied that it will block Safari. That is expected. Why make unnecessary enemies.

This news is very damaging to the image of Apple's software. I am scared of using Safari to do online banking now. Well... I always use FF for this sort of stuff anyways.

Paypal is just bluffing about blocking Safari. It is just trying to put pressure on the software giant to improve the browser's security. And I am sure Safari will be a better browser by the end of Q2. So, it is quite likely Paypal will drop the warning on Safari by then.
