OLPC runs Windows instead of Linux?
goog ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) goog  |  was scored on 03-Jul-2008 (505 days ago)
This prediction is inspired by this news:
"OLPC to scrap Linux for Windows"
http://www.theinquirer.ne...
"IN A SOMEWHAT shocking revelation, One Laptop Per Child has said that they might dump Linux from their XO laptops in favour of the Vole's Windows XP. The seeming surrender to the evil corporate world comes just a day after the company's president tendered his resignation."

Sounds like OLPC might actually push out a Windows based machine, and get rid of Linux completely. Let's predict the possible outcome before the end of Q2 2008.

OLPC has under-estimated the power of commodity - even the commercial products (by Dell and others) can cut the price tag as low as the OLPC's laptop.

Poor project, and poor developers behind the project. This is a perfect example of a good intention goes terribly wrong.

I'd imagine that a lot of the people who established the OLPC would get their backs up about banning Linux, but if the quote in the original story is correct, sounds like the new administrator is a'hatin'.

Windows has a higher requirement, not to mention the OLPC projects have lots of apps built on top of Linux already. It would be a waste to throw them away or rewrite them in Windows. Well, unless MS has lots of support in the project (like free license etc.), I don't think how the project can switch to Windows completely.

This is a big news for the open source community. Another battle lost to big corporations.
