New Bill: Anonymous Commenting to be Outlawed
Thinkr ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) Thinkr  |  was scored on 08-Jul-2008 (500 days ago)
ValleyWag picked up a story from WTVQ in Kentucky today on a bit of proposed legislation by State Representative Tim Couch that has designs to make illegal the ability to post anonymously to the internet. The bill requires anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and email address on that site. Of course, the offender couldn't be very easily prosecuted since there would be no way to track the anonymous poster, but the website operator would be forced to make their site compliant or otherwise face a fine of $500 per each offending post.

Will this new bill be proposed and passed before July 2008? Do you like the ideas?

i agree .. the authority can always track down hackers ... seems there were always some trace they can found in the digital world. So such a bill is totally unnecessary.

I think human rights groups will definitely be fighting this bill... and this proposed bill symbolizes an ignorance to the internet culture where people are all using pseudonyms and are, for the most part, completely anonymous.

But it's not like there is not a way authorities can track down someone if the info given is deemed illegal... have these law makers ever heard of something called an IP address? :p

If this bill is passed, it will kill 95% of users' activity on the Internet. I have no idea why this bill is proposed in the first place.

it sounds good, but it is not easy to enforce all foreign or mini sites. So it is hard to enforce the law.
