Just read about Microsoft showcasing the Surface tabletop computer at AT&T stores. This is basically testing the user market and see how well the crowd accepts the new product. Here is the official Surface website:

Microsoft start selling Surface tabletop computer to developers for $13,500, but that was after Q3. Microsoft did sell this computers to commercial customers like AT&T but that doesn't count as public release:

This AT&T demo is going to sitting there for another year, then Microsoft will drop the project completely.

If the multi-touch interface can be applied to my laptop, then I will buy it. But if we are talking about smart furniture, then forget it. I don't think the market is large enough. This will be another dead project.

I think a mobile phone projector is more versatile. This tabletop thing is too bulky.

Oh yeah. The tabletop computer will be sold as.... a very expensive tabletop.

Perfect to put my tasty ice mocha on.

    predicted: [ Most Likely ] [ 71% ] Yes, Surface released!
Yes, it will be released. But I also predict the project will fail just like the tablet PC. The market and usage is too niche to appeal to general public. I don't see people putting these huge PC in their living room while there is already a big screen TV acting as a computer screen. Cafe / teahouse / restaurant / airport / shopping mall might be interested in installing these computers. But still it is more hype than substance.
