The London mayoral election for the office of Mayor of London takes place every 4 years. The next mayoral election is scheduled for 1 May 2008. The Mayor of London is mayor of Greater London, which has a population of over 7.5 million while the City of London is only a small part of the modern city centre and has a population of less than 10,000. The first, and current, elected Mayor of London is Ken Livingstone, who was re-elected in 2004. He is the Labour Party candidate for the forthcoming 2008 mayoral election, in which he hopes to win a third term.
The present Mayor of London has made an impact with the city's ageing transportation infrastructure, environmental policies, homosexual civil partnerships, and racism policies, etc.
