Kilpatrick, the Detroit Mayor, Facing Assault Charges
oWell ( Score Rank: #367 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) oWell  |  was scored on 02-Nov-2008 (18 days ago)
Judge Ronald Giles of 36th District Court has ruled that there is enough evidence to send Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to trial on felony charges that he interfered with officers trying to serve a subpoena.

Kwame Malik Kilpatrick, is the mayor of Detroit, Michigan. Elected at the age of 31, he is the youngest mayor in the history of Detroit. Kilpatrick served as the leader of the Democratic Caucus when elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives, making him the first African American to hold a leadership position in the Michigan's Legislature.

He is already facing a few criminal charges. Will he quit the mayor position?

If he is already facing charges, are there laws that would require him to take a leave of absence or just flat out quit? I don't understand the system well enough to offer a prediction here, I don't think... but if he is already facing charges and he is still holding on, what would one more charge do to change his mind?

Amid all those headaches -- and the very real chance his political career is going the way of auto worker jobs -- Kilpatrick asked the court's permission to hit the Denver party circuit in less than two weeks for the Democratic National Convention.

Yep, the mayor is a Democratic superdelegate, believe it or not.
