Judge orders Google to turn over YouTube records, how will it affect you?
predictor ( Score Rank: #40 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) predictor  |  closed on 03-Aug-2008 (27 days ago)
"A federal judge in New York has ordered Google to turn over to Viacom a database linking users of YouTube, the Web's largest video site by far, with every clip they have watched there."
http://www.nytimes.com/20...

Although both Viacom and Google states that no individual users will be traced and sued for any activities within those records, this raises the question of whether we still have privacy in viewing content on the Internet.

Let's hear how this ruling is going to impact your YouTube browsing habit.

It's not like I am using YouTube to watch anything inappropriate... I don't think I will be sued for watching old 80 videos.

I lose my privacy as soon as I get online anyway. So, I don't care anymore.

As long as I don't post copyrighted videos on YouTube, I think I am safe. I don't think some company can sue me for viewing a video clip.

In this case, I think Google has no choice but to hand over the records. Form the end user point of view, this is outrageous. It is not like I trust Google less. But to protect myself, I probably will be more selective on what I view on Youtube.

I could understand giving them an upload listing of suspected material but a viewing listing? This screams big brother.

I am sure Google treat this privacy issue seriously. It is not like Google willing turn over these records. They have no choice.

This should have little impact on me, because I don't even post videos there. But having to hand over users data to a 3rd party is a scary thought.
