Internet fridge back from the dead: Will the Whirlpool's fridge laptop be a hit?
will101 ( Score Rank: #91 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) will101  |  closed on 07-Feb-2008 (302 days ago)
Five years ago, LG Appliances combined a refrigerator with a PC and it was a colossal flop. Now Whirlpool is taking their shot, albeit with a somewhat different approach. Whirlpool's GD5VVAXT fridge ($1999) allows owners to hang a laptop, digital photo frame or iPod dock in modules on the left door panel. Do you think this new device will rock?

The smart fridge will be dead in 2 years, replaced with a generic touchscreen tablet that can be mounted to flat surface like wall, fridge, countertop etc etc.

$2000 sounds pricey for a kitchen computer. And in NA, most of us have enough space to use other alternative. Why not buy a cheap laptop and place it on the countertop? That will cost $600?

I like the removable laptop idea. At least better than the old LG idea in which the laptop was part of the fridge. Still, I think attaching a laptop to only a fridge is too limiting. A generic wall mount laptop is better in a modern kitchen.
