How many seats would the Green Party win in Canada's federal election?
black-shoulder ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) black-shoulder  |  was scored on 15-Oct-2008 (518 days ago)
After successfully securing a spot in the national party's leader debate, Green Party leader Elizabeth May is making a whirlwind tour across Canada seeking support for the upcoming election.

The Green Party has been around the Canadian political landscape for a while. In the 2006 election, they have won over 650,000 votes national wide (4.48% of the popular vote), but have never managed to actually win a seat in the general election. Currently, they have one member in the parliament as a result of a deflection of a former Liberal MP.

The most recent poll has the Green Party at 11% of popular support. How many (if at all) seats would that translate into remains to be seen.

How many seats do you think the Green Party will win in the upcoming election?

I guess there is a long ways to go before the result would become more apparent. However, given the Canadian electoral system in that a party has to be the MOST popular in a riding to win a seat, I think the chance for Green candidates to win is just not very high. I would not be surprised if one or two candidates that are of significant fame surprise us and win a couple of seats, but for a significant number, I think the chance is very remote.
