The iPhone has been available since June 29, 2007 in the United States from Apple Retail Stores, the Apple Online Store, and from AT&T Mobility for a contracted price of US$499 for the 4 GB model and US$599 for the 8 GB model. Apple also announced that its goal is to capture 1% of the global mobile phone market, which would be approximately 10 million units being sold in the first full calendar year of iPhone availability. For comparison, Jobs announced that the Apple iPod commands 62% of the U.S. market share for MP3 players.

Mike Abramsky at RBC Capital Markets is looking at a 18 month projection of 13.4 mil units since the iphone launch date of June 29. So, if you believe in this projection even slightly, then you can confidently say that by the end of 2007, the unit sold will exceed 3 mil or even 4 mil. I personally think this estimate is over optimistic.

There were news abt iPhone having security problems. It would definitely have an impact on the sales.

Any idea why Apple decides to have AT&T as exclusive carrier for the iPhone? What does Apple have to gain by limiting this to only one carrier while there are dozens out there?

I suppose this prediction is for the US market only? iPhone is not for sale in Canada yet. Poor Canadians, always behind in the good stuff.

I really doubt iPhone sales will go over 1mil. Lack of replaceable battery and security features is going to keep corporate users away from it.

Hey, think about this: Apple said it sold 270,000 iPhones during the first 30 hours the mobile device was on the market. It's all about hype in the early stage of consumer market.
