    Phelps has just won the 100m butterfly, his weakest event, to tie Mark Sprit's record of 7 gold medals in one Olympic year. The remaining is the 4x100 freestyle, which US is very strong at. I don't see any stopping of him winning 8 now.

    Phelps has gone 5 for 5 so far, breaking the world record in every event he has entered and subsequently won. I don't see any stopping in him.

    Phelps has looked invincible so far, and his margin of victory is staggering. Of the 8 events he has entered, only the 200m butterfly and the last team relay race (forgot the distance) are not ones where he is very certain in. I think he will definitely win 6 or more. Most likely he will win 7, and 8 is a possibility if his teammates pulled it off like they did with the 4x100m freestyle.
