Google Prediction: Google shows banner or video ads in its search page in 2008
goog ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) goog  |  closed on 01-Jan-2009 (324 days ago)
The latest paid-click data for search engines shows that Americans are clicking on paid search ads less than we did last year--not an encouraging trend for the state of online advertising. For Google alone, which represents about 60 percent of the U.S. search market and is a bellwether for Internet companies, this deceleration in paid-click growth has been going on since at least October. Year-over-year monthly growth rates in paid clicks have fallen from 37 percent in October to 27 percent in November, 12 percent in December, 0 percent in January, and now 3 percent in February, according to ComScore figures published by Silicon Alley Insider.

Due to the slow down of click-thru ad revenue, do you think Google will start showing banner or video ads in their search result page in order to pick up its momentum again?

Never seen a video or banner ad on Google, and I use it daily.

Google is still considered the top revenue-raiser for online ads. Can't see them fiddling with something that works, by putting in something almost guaranteed to frustrate users by consuming bandwidth. I suspect that what we will see is more targeting of ads to browsers.

Maybe elsewere, not on the search page. They know their biggest advantage is to keep that lean, both for customer satisfaction and simple speed of results return.

What's wrong with showing banner and video ads? As long as they are entertaining with big brand names, I won't mind. Yes, I love being brain washed by big corporations.

I trust Google won't do that.

Yes that's why it bought DoubleClick. Recently Google is under the pressure of revenue slow down. Both video ads on YouTube, and banner ads will attract more ads from off-line world. The industry size of off-line ads is still multitude of on-line ads. The best strategy is not fighting against MS or Yahoo, but tap to blue ocean such as off-line advertisers.

Google has other ads channel that can provide the growth it needs. eg. YouTube, and mobile service etc. So, there is no need to put graphical ads on their result page.
