Google on Gay Marriage
thyntas ( Score Rank: #117 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) thyntas  |  will close on 01-Feb-2009 (59 days from now)
Sergey Brin admits in a company blog post that the November ballot proposal in California to ban gay marriage is an "unlikely question" for Google to take a public position. He goes on:

However, while there are many objections to this proposition - further government encroachment on personal lives, ambiguously written text - it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 - we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.

Will Google change its clear proposition in the future?

I do too. It appears the question now considers it to be so. So I'm sure Google will stick to its guns :p

I consider Brin's blog, talking about Google as "we" and "us", to be a clear and active company position. And the position is obviously pro-gay.

If you don't consider Brin's blog to stand as a clear company position, then I don't think Google will take any further measures towards an active stance.

You have to read the news - Google is clearly PRO same-sex marriage.

Like any major company, Google will try their best to be as ambiguous as possible.
