    Google bets on Internet while Microsoft bets on desktop with connection to Internet. I think this clears all.

    It is not very likely Google will compete head on with Microsoft on the desktop OS. If you look at the type of products Google has right now, it makes more sense to release a web OS instead.

    Google is still trying to get its mobile OS going. It will take too much resources to do a desktop OS. Why not a web OS instead?
