Failed US Banks in 2008
Oilzilla ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) Oilzilla  |  closed on 01-Jan-2009 (445 days ago)
On Aug 22, Columbian Bank and Trust of Topeka, Kansas, was shut down by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and other regulators, making it the "ninth" U.S. bank to fail this year as a weakening economy and falling home prices take their toll.

Still, the loudest complaints on Main Street relate to rising commodity costs and inflation, especially expensive fuel and food. Gasoline prices have become a key issue in the Presidential campaign. U.S. consumers are spending less as retailers and restaurants struggle.

How many US banks will be closed in 2008?

Let's close this one up - more than 20 banks have closed this year already.

I expect more closing down in Q4 as the credit crunch get deeper. It will be harder for small banks to raise enough capital.

I assume the 9 banks option mean "9 or fewer," right? I think there's not enough time for a massive number of banks to close with 4 months left in the year, so I'd pick 9.

No it meant 9. There are already 9 banks closed in 2008.
