Facebook supports OpenID in Q3 2008
Guru ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) Guru  |  was scored on 01-Oct-2008 (401 days ago)
NewsCorp's MySpace just announced the support of OpenID on their platform by joining the OpenID coalition. This is another successful steps by OpenID to attract yet another major site to take advantage of this wonderful standard. One day, we can use a single login id for most sites. But that day will come sooner if Facebook also joins the camp.
http://www.businessweek.c...

Right now, Facebook still doesn't support the OpenID standard. This prediction is to find out if Facebook will support OpenID in Q3 2008.

Prediction will close on Oct 1st. And we will verify the result by then.

No effort shown by Facebook so far.

I find OpenID a bit difficult to use. First, the user name is long, second, I have to manage my account on another OpenID server. I guess it will be worth the effort if most of the sites use OpenID.

Maybe ZiiTrend can use it some day.

Facebook just announced a plan to open up its login as an API to be used by other sites. Basically it is releasing its own version of OpenID. So, it is extremely unlikely Facebook will join OpenID coalition anytime soon. Not even in 2009.

Somehow Facebook hasn't been making headlines lately. It is MySpace's turn now.

As long as Facebook can keep its users loyalty, they can still afford not using open standard like OpenID. Right now, the benefit for Facebook to support OpenID is minimal. The benefit is more on the users' side.
