Here are some rumors for your reading enjoyment:

Do you think the new Canon G10 will include a CMOS sensor? We will verify the result by the end of September 2008. As long as Canon official announce the spec, it will be considered as the official answer.

No CMOS for G10. G10 is just announced. Canon put the CMOS in another camera, I think it is called SX1.

Here is some interesting discussion about CMOS in G10:

I agree that it makes little sense to sacrifice the DSLR sales by making G10 too powerful.

I doubt the new G10 will be announced before September 2008. G10 should beat least in the market for 1.5 years before it is replaced by the next model. It is too early to tell.

I wonder if CMOS is a proprietary technology by Canon? I heard the sensor produces superior images compared to CCD. But why did Canon not used the CMOS sensors in all it cameras in the last 10 years? beause of higher cost?

If Canon is to release a CMOS G10, then the difference between a Rebel and the G-series is getting smaller. The biggest difference is that you will be missing on all the great lenses if you go with the G-series.

Here is some more rumors on CMOS in G10.

Even if Canon decides to include the CMOS sensor inside G10, this CMOS chip probably will be a lot smaller than what you see in Rebel. To fit inside the camera and to differential the product lines, they might just stick with 1.7" sensor.

This is still pretty good. My impression is that CMOS sensors produce smooth and better images compared to CCD sensors.

I think it makes more sense for Canon to make G10 more appealing, since this model has been so popular among camera enthusiasts. I know a lot of professionals buying this camera for non-professional use.

If it is true, then Canon G10 will be one of the best selling camera of the G-series after Canon G2 or G3.

If Canon can include a fast lens with the camera, then I will be the first one lining up to get one.
