In May 2008, the federal New Democratic Party plans to introduce a private member's net neutrality bill into the House of Commons. Some of the protesters had boarded buses in the early morning hours to get to a rally in order to join with other supporters of net neutrality which is a movement urging the government to enact rules that prevent large Internet service providers (ISPs) from interfering with the free flow of information over the internet.
The core issue in the net neutrality debate is the actions of big ISPs that have been slowing down the internet speeds of customers who use certain types of applications, such as peer-to-peer software used for file sharing. Will the bill be passed by Sep 2008?
