Elections Canada and the Conservative party have been engaged in a protracted legal battle over $1.2 million in alleged campaign spending irregularities from the 2006 election. That dispute escalated last week when the RCMP raided the party's national headquarters in Ottawa.
Given the search warrants allege that one or more documents were altered, LeBlanc said the problem is larger than whether party may or may not have broken election financing rules. Liberals say the RCMP should launch an investigation into what they call an "Enron-style" accounting system the Conservative Party used during the last election campaign. This case will occupy the Canadian newspaper for awhile. Do you think any members of Conservative Party will be found illegal in the last election?

The Conservative party's 15-month legal battle against Elections Canada could draw to a close this fall after the federal party lost a last-ditch bid to enter new evidence in its lawsuit. However, if the Tories decide to appeal the decision, voters may not find out until after the next election whether the ruling party perpetrated campaign spending fraud during the last campaign.
