On Nov 4, California will vote on whether or not same sex marriages should be allowed to be carried out in the state in a proposition 8 ballot that if passed, would see the constitution changed so that only marriage between a man and a woman would be recognized. The "California Marriage Protection Act" aims at preserving marriage between a man and a woman as the only recognized form of marriage, and if passed this would be the case in California.
Many media (incld. Google and NYT) have announced to oppose the bill. The amendment needs a simple majority to pass, and if the voters reject gay marriage, their decision will supersede the high court's. Will California pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in 2008? reference: http://www.voterguide.sos...
