Baidu Europe puts brand and domain names up for sale. It is Netherlands-based Internet company with eight employees, is putting its brand name and 10 domain names up for grabs to the highest bidder. The company hopes to begin the bidding at 1.2 million euros ($1.7 million).

The company was set up in 2003 and chose the name of Baidu because it means "near you" in the local dialect, Baidu Europe managing director Peter Ufkes told Forbes.com. While the company has clung onto the name for the past five years, recent confusion over the two companies, when the Chinese Baidu decided to have itself represented by a Dutch company in Europe, it decided the time was right to sell.
