Apple sells unlocked iPhone 3G in another city after Hong Kong?

Seems like Apple is testing the unlocked cell phone market by selling unlocked iPhone 3G in Hong Kong. Selling unlocked mobile phone with no contract is always the norm in Hong Kong. So, I suppose Apple has to make this move to stay competitive in this Asian market.

For those of us living somewhere else in the world, we probably hope to have the option of buying an unlocked iPhone 3G as well. Let's predict if Apple will start selling unlocked iPhone 3G in another city after Hong Kong in 2008.

From what I know... the i-phones sold in HK have always been unlocked, as do other phones that are sold in HK. I think Apple will continue to sell locked phones in countries where their phones are traditionally locked, and unlocked ones in places where the "norm" is to sell unlocked phones. There isn't a big demand per se in those countries to get specifically a phone that is unlocked. (not to mention that there may be laws that prevent that from happening)

It will take time to test the new market. I think more cities will enjoy this same setup in early 2009.
