Sony CEO Stringer just declared stalemate in Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD war. Is it an attempt to stop the war and negotiate some kind of cooperation between the two camps? These companies are trying to make money after all. So, cooperation is good for them, it's good for the movie industry, and it is good for the consumers. So, do you think there will be any cooperation effort between the two camps between the end of Q1 2008?

    I think these companies need to quit it. They are here to make money not to fight a format war. Cooperation is unavoidable if they are evenly matched.

    I wonder where the "point of no return" is for both camps. Meaning, can either one at this point say "OK, we'll now start making the other type of players". What about the currently available software? Dump it?

      Yeah, I agree. It is getting kind of hopeless now. In order for a cheap dual-format player to come out, the hardware for both format has to be cheap enough. LG made a attempt to introduce a dual-format, but it was so darn expensive because they included both types of hardware. Another way is for both camp to lower their licensing fee, and get a third party to manufacture hardware that is compatible with both formats.

      Man, this sounds so complicated just by talking about it. I think both camps are pretty screwed this time.
