Any American Zero-Emissions City by 2010?
banker ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) banker  |  closed on 08-Aug-2008 (470 days ago)
In Apr 2008, a city has being built in Abu Dhabi will serve as a large-scale test for renewable energy. In the harsh desert climate of Abu Dhabi, construction started on a city that will house 50,000 people and 1,500 businesses but use extremely little energy, and what it does use will come from renewable sources. The initial building is a new research institute that the founders hope will be the seed for the equivalent of a Silicon Valley of the Middle East, only one centered not on information technology but on renewable energy.

Nevertheless, Paul Dickerson, the chief operating officer for the United States' Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, believes that Abu Dhabi will prove a valuable model. "We will no longer have to guess what the city of the future looks like," he said.

Will we build any zero-emissions city in America by 2010??

You guys should read the documentary "Who killed the electric car", then you will see zero-emission city is just a pipe dream.

We are just 1.5 years away from 2010, and no US cities can change that fast.

Absolutely no. The only way the US will get a zero-emission city is if some natural catastrophe flattens one entirely.

No new city by 2010 or 2020. Why? where's the beef? Americans are concerned about:
THE ECONOMY, THE WAR IN IRAQ. THE UNEMPLOYMENT, THE RISING COST OF GAS,
FOOD, TAXES, INFLATION, THE TERRIBLE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, AND a miriad of other problems that is facing our society, where is the money, the incentive,. Are you nieve enough to think that energy guzzling AL GORE will prevail? The man who claims all sorts of things and can't prove anything.

No way man. US cities are so wasteful, it will take years before we see any zero-emission cities here. It can only happen in fast developing countries with lots of cash in hand. That is not what US is having right now.

Yeap California - San Jose valley may want to start such a hi-tech city. Although our federal and big corp sound not caring about the env protection, the local residents do care.
