Another Chernobyl disaster in the next decade?
oWell ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) oWell  |  closed on 01-Jun-2008 (538 days ago)
Due to global warming and increasing oil price, politicians of EU and America are convincing public to build more nuclear plants. On 26 April 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant located in the Soviet Union exploded. Further explosions sent a plume of highly radioactive fallout over an extensive geographical area. Do you expect to have another incident like Chernobyl disaster? Or do you trust the nuclear tech is perfectly safe now?

Nuclear power is looking as if it's going to roll out over the next 25 years. Guaranteed with such a fast rollout that someone is going to cut corners and someone is going to stuff up. However Chernobyl happened due to a TOTAL disregard for the dangers and a monumental chain of blunders.

maybe, , for example in a few years ago, there was problems in some industries ,chemical facilities.
and in USA there happened accidents with trains which transported chemical products..
the nuclear facilities doesn't have much security now, after 9/11 some reporters had obtained to enter in some facilities without being caught, and many facilities are old without maintenance

Maybe some minor leak, but the government will cover it up nicely.

I hope the government will retire the older plants if they fall below safety standard.

btw, I read somewhere that there are lots of nuclear plants in France. Energy is their major export item to other European countries. I wonder if this makes France less safe to live in compared to, let's say, America.
